Indawgyi Lake, Biosphere Reserve and Shee Myitzu Pagoda. (Kachin State, Myanmar.)



Indawgyi Lake is one of the largest inland lakes in Southeast Asia. It is located in Mohnyin Township in the Kachin State of Myanmar. The lake measures 13 kilometres east to west, and 24 kilometres north to south. There are over 20 villages around the lake. It is 546 feet (166 m) above sea level. The lakeis the main feature of the Indawgyi Lake Wildlife Sanctuary. It is surrounded by large mountains with aheight of over 10,00 to over 40,00 feet.The Shwe Manzhu Pagoda is built on a ledge in the middle of Indawgyi Lake. When the time of the Pagoda festival is approaching, two sand roads usually appear for people to walk under the Pagoda. When the festival is over, the sand roads are often submerged in water. The Indawgyi Wildlife Sanctuary is located around the Indawgyi Lake. Established in 1999. Landscapes, rare mammals; A variety of animals including birds can be found. 20,000 migratory and native bird species, including 10 endangered bird species. It is a key wetland home to 93 species of fish, including 5 globally endangered turtles and 7 species of fish found only here. Among these birds are Greylag Geese, Oriental Darter, Purple Swamphen are common in January. If you go around by boat, you can see the life scenes of the species of the mud flats. Lakes and wetlands are shelters for winteringbirds. Waste from the surrounding villages is threatening water quality.
